Wellbeing is a word that you probably see and hear every day. It’s something we strive for constantly in our hectic lives.

Every day, people chase the holy grail of complete peace – with their body mind and soul.

But so much of our day to day lives is completely at odds with that. We can spend far more time talking about wellbeing than actually focusing on it and making it a priority. It can be confusing and overwhelming as there is so much information ‘out there’ and it can be full of contradictions.

So how do we make it a priority? Let’s start by truly understanding what it is.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, wellbeing is the ‘condition of being comfortable, healthy or happy’.

To dive a bit deeper, wellbeing is not just an emotional feeling or response. It can happen on a variety of levels – from physical or social, to psychological or intellectual.

Fitness and exercise

Keep your body moving – it’s massively important!

Movement is the key to unlocking the best out of your body and keeping your wellbeing the best, it can be. Regular exercise, be it stretching, going for a walk or jog, or even embarking on a long-distance bike ride, is vital for our body to function properly.

Taking part in yoga classes is also a particularly good way to practice meaningful movement, and is an exercise that benefits your wellbeing in a variety of ways too.



Another important factor to consider when thinking about your body’s wellbeing is nutrition. Ensuring your body is well fuelled with the right food and drink is key.

Our nutrition can often help ease particular imbalances in the body, and therefore goes hand-in-hand with chiropractic care.

One easy way to improve habits is to start to focus on hydration. Regularly drinking lots of water is great and helps balance fluids in the body, enabling you with a variety of health benefits. What’s more, you can get hydrated through eating fruit and veg too, so make sure to aim for fresh vegetables with every meal and as snacks throughout the day.


Regular Mindfulness

Of course, keeping your physical health in check is vitally important to ensure good wellbeing, but we also need to keep tabs on our heads too.

Mindfulness is a great way to keep tabs on your mental wellbeing. Quite simply, mindfulness is the practice of learning to be fully present in the moment via a series of different exercises.  It’s proven to help decrease stress, treat anxiety and depression, and have an overall positive impact on your mental health.

Exercises can be as simple as resting your eyes for ten minutes and concentrating on breathing and the feelings in your body and noting the thoughts that pop into your head. You can also use guided exercises and courses on apps such as Headspace.


Posture and desk set up

A lot of people spend the majority of their week hunched over a desk in a chair that doesn’t offer enough back support and doing this for a prolonged period of time can be incredibly bad for your body.

Make sure that your back is supported and that you’re not leaning forward and placing an unnecessary strain on your spine. Aim to keep a natural and neutral posture instead and keep your back straight. Remember to get up, move and change positions on a regular basis, this is so important.

Little changes to your everyday life like this can go a long way to improving your physical wellbeing.

This is all a very useful reminder to me to prioritise my own wellbeing. Over these past few months, life has been extremely stressful. Just like everyone else, I’ve been swept up in concerns of what’s happening in the world and my wellbeing has slipped as a priority.

By making sure I prioritise my own wellbeing, I can better care for my clients and make sure they’re at their healthiest and happiest.

For the next week, I’ll be relaxing, reading and of course, paddle boarding. I’ll be spending time outside, catching-up on sleep and making the most of time with family. When I return, I’ll be be re-energised and better equipped to be able to focus more on something which is vital for my wellbeing – helping people and serving my community, with chiropractic care.
