What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic, established as a profession in 1895 by DD Palmer, is a unique healthcare approach that combines mainstream management of back pain and musculoskeletal issues with alternative methods to promote overall health and well-being.

The core concept of chiropractic revolves around utilizing the spine to enhance an individual's health, without resorting to drugs or surgery. It emphasizes the idea of "healthy spine, healthy you."According to the World Federation of Chiropractic, chiropractic is defined as a health profession that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. It also considers the impact of these disorders on the functioning of the nervous system and overall

well-being. Manual treatments, such as spinal adjustments and manipulation of joints and soft tissues, play a significant role in chiropractic care.

At its essence, chiropractic is about facilitating communication between the brain and the body. The central nervous system, housed within the spine, controls our body's functions. It serves as the vital communication network connecting our brains and bodies. Any disruption in this network can adversely affect our internal communication system.

When this system is obstructed, our body's ability to function properly is compromised. This leads to slower healing, restricted mobility, and potentially living with a clouded mental state we may not even realise.

The nervous system governs every function in our organs, ranging from digestion, attention, balance, posture, and breathing to heart rate, hormone production, and immune response. When the brain and nervous system function optimally, the body follows suit.

Chiropractic care ensures that the communication system remains unimpeded and continually improves through regular adjustments. When combined with a lifestyle that incorporates regular exercise, nutritious eating habits, and mindfulness practices, the impact is profound.
